Activated carbon, also known as activated charcoal, comes from carbon-rich materials like coconut shells, peat, lignite, coal, and wood. These raw materials undergo a high-temperature activation process—typically in a furnace—which transforms them into a highly porous structure. The result is a material with an exceptionally large surface area and a dense network of microscopic pores, making it highly effective at adsorbing impurities from gases and liquids.

At ARAC, we’re constantly exploring new sources of carbon to enhance performance, boost efficiency, and support sustainable purification across air, water, and energy systems.

Product Origin

Wood-Based Activated Carbon

Produced from select hardwood, this variant offers a balanced pore structure ideal for gas phase adsorption, air purification, Edible Oil purification, pharmaceutical and industrial filtration.

Its high macroporosity makes it suitable for larger molecular compounds and vapor-phase contaminants.

Coconut Shell-Based Activated Carbon

Sourced from premium coconut shells, this grade delivers exceptionally high microporosity, making it ideal for water purification, gold recovery, and pharmaceutical-grade filtration.

Known for its durability and low ash content, it’s a preferred choice for high-performance applications.

Forms of Activated Carbon

Powdered Activated Carbon (PAC)

Fine-particle carbon with a large surface area, ideal for rapid adsorption in liquid-phase processes such as water treatment, food-grade purification, and pharmaceutical filtration.

Granular Activated Carbon (GAC)

Larger particle size and durable structure designed for continuous flow systems like air purification, gold recovery, and Industrial Liquids and Gases Treatment.
